What is AusIDentities?

AusIDentities is a practical and engaging Australian framework that helps people better understand themselves, appreciate individual differences and communicate more effectively with others.

Using the characteristics of four iconic Australian animals — the Dolphin, Eagle, Kangaroo and Wombat — AusIDentities makes ideas about personality, temperament and human behaviour easier to understand, remember and apply in everyday life.

Colourful, engaging and rich in practical content, the program goes beyond personality theory to provide useful insights and tools that can help address real challenges in communication, relationships, leadership, teamwork, career choice and learning.

Since its introduction in 2005, AusIDentities has been used by more than 350 schools across Australia, as well as businesses, with Universities, Community Organisations and Not-for-Profits, that include the Red Cross, Scripture Union and Foster Care Australia.

Understanding People Shouldn't Be Complicated

People think, communicate, learn and respond to the world in different ways. When we fail to understand those differences, then misunderstanding, frustration and unnecessary conflict can all too often become part of our everyday relationships. The question then becomes 'what to do about it?'

Learning to recognise and appreciate what makes different people think and act the way they do can change the way we communicate, work and connect with one another. It replaces misunderstanding with awareness, intolerance with acceptance, and converts frustration into a deeper appreciation of the strengths and contributions that different people can often bring to the world.

"I want to share the AusIDentities framework with as many people as possible — particularly our young people — helping them to develop a greater understanding of who they are, what positive qualities they bring to the world and why the people around them may see, think and respond differently."

"I believe that greater self-awareness, acceptance and understanding can help build confidence, strengthen relationships and create healthier, more connected schools, workplaces and communities." Michael White - Creator of AusIDentities

Frequently Asked Questions

AusIDentities draws on the same foundations as MBTI but translates them into four memorable Australian animal types. Teams that have used MBTI, DISC or HBDI find the transition simple — the same insights, without the complex theory, so they actually stick.

Yes. The model draws on the work of Dr David Keirsey and more than 30 years of personality research, and has been applied in schools across Australia since 2005.

After typing more than 20,000 teachers over a period of 20 years, we've found nearly 70% of teachers are “Wombats” — a pattern that helps schools understand their own culture and communication styles.

In our work, we have worked with thousands of students, and found that roughly 90% of at-risk students identify as “Kangaroos”. Recognising this early helps educators connect with and better support these students.

AusIDentities has been used by Peak Bodies such as QASSP, QELI, Catholic Education, the University of the Sunshine Coast, TAFE, Scripture Union, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, among many others.
